As we all know, 2020 was a year like no other for so many awful reasons.  As with many other businesses in our position, our shops had to close for a number of months.  It was initially devastating for us – but as with the rest of the world, you guys switched to online flawlessly and we managed to keep our head above water! (Thank you!).

It wasn’t without its challenges though.  All our products are handmade here in Sydney, so they are pulled together with bits and pieces from many different Australian suppliers – who were also facing crazy shortages.  We spent most of the year chasing our tails grabbing stock any way we could get it.  We spent most of last year with many fragrances out of stock, some of our most popular were out for months!  On the scheme of things in the world though, such a small issue to deal with.

Thankfully we went from strength to strength and YOU kept us in business for which we will be forever grateful.

We try to do this top 10 fragrance list every year as many do purchase online only and it is insanely difficult to pick a fragrance without being able to have a little sniff – so it is great to understand our most popular.  These stats go across both in store purchases and online! I will always be an analyst at heart – so love all this numbers stuff.

Soy Candles

Surprisingly, even with some of our top fragrances being out for months (in particular, Coconut Pineapple & Vanilla and Watermelon Lemonade) – our top 10 for our Soy Candles has not changed too much this year.  Just a few position changes…

6. Coconut Pineapple & Vanilla
7. Lemongrass & Persian Lime

Vanilla Caramel is still top of the list… but there was not much between Japanese Honeysuckle and Vanilla Caramel – I predict Japanese Honeysuckle to take over next year.  Its popularity is only increasing! Interestingly, Vanilla Caramel and Japanese Honeysuckle together make up about 20% of our overall candle making – they really are THAT popular!

Numbers 11, 12 and 13 were all very close together and not far behind Pink Sugar – so they really should rate a mention – Egyptian Musk, Hawaiian Honey Blossom and French Vanilla Bourbon.

We have a huge range of soy candle glassware available here at Swik.  Our Leura and Bondi are our standard range of soy candles - and make up about 75% of our candle sales.  They both come in 2 sizes as well, so there is something for everyone there.  As with all our soy candles, you can grab any of our fragrances in your choice of glassware.

Wax Melts are so huge right now.  Just when we think we are fully stocked… BAM, they fly out the door in great numbers and we are back to square one!  We always joke that making melts is like painting the harbour bridge – we go round and round and round!  Lucky we love it!

A little bit of a different list here compared to candles – it always amazes me!  The top 3 were very close together but I have to say – no surprises with Japanese Honeysuckle.   

Another interesting fact – we do take Musk Sticks to our shops in Soy Candles, yet it barely rates a mention in our Soy Candle list – yet look at it here – in wax melts, it seems to go nuts!

Last year 1 Million and Cotton Candy were on the list – they fall in 11^th and 12^th spot respectively for 2020 (and those were in stock all year!).
